Colossal Squid

Speaking of whales, harpoons are not their only enemies. The Colossal Squid is the biggest predator of whales as well as of sharks and the ocean’s ecosystem as a whole. Different from the Giant Squid, the Colossal Squid has sharp claws at the end of its tentacles and can measure up to 45 feet long or as long as a school bus!

The Collossal is the largest known of the squid species and the world’s largest invertebrate. It is believed to have the largest eyes in the animal kingdom. One specimen caught and dissected by marine biologists is on display in the Te Papa Tongarewa Museum of New Zealand.
